Paper look film boosts cheese sales

16 January 2006

Dutch cheese maker Cono Kaasmakers has "significantly" grown sales and seen increasing supermarket demand for its products after re-launching 19 of its Beemster cheese varieties in a new "paper look" resealable film flowpack designed by Delft-based industrial design company Flex.

Flex says Dutch sales of pre-packed cheeses are falling, with purchasing increasingly driven by convenience and pack aesthetics. This led Cono to commission Flex to develop a new range of packaging, to replace its existing thermoformed packs, that would convey the quality and traditional pedigree of its cheeses.

The packs, a laminate of PET/PE/EVOH with a PE peel layer, are produced by Fresh Support in Zeewolde. Pack graphics are by Amsterdam's Proud Design.
