Packs on the sweet scent of success

Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging is shortly to offer a full range of scented packaging, ranging from canisters to polymer tubes and stoppers, allowing nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and food producers to protect their products from moisture and other elements and enhance their marketability.

The company says the product line will be ideal for applications like fish oil tablets, herbal supplements and other nutraceuticals, chemicals, foods and other products that emit a potentially unappealing smell.

The proprietary technology, which will be incorporated directly into injection-moulded polymer products, packets and bags will also, Süd-Chemie says, enable manufacturers of a wide range of other goods to gain a competitive edge by adding a pleasant scent to their packaging.

The "flagship" product, the "Aroma-Can", is modelled on Süd-Chemie's desiccant canisters, widely used in the pharma industry. 1g canisters will be available in orange and lemon variations and can reportedly be inserted at similar high speeds to traditional desiccant canisters using standard canister insertion equipment.
