The Ware site will be manufacturing all the new powder inhaled products in the pipeline and is currently introducing 80% of all new solid dose products. It manufactures and develops some of GSK’s most complex medicines. Ware supplies 140 countries and processes 12,000 orders per annum, this includes up to 50 million respiratory devices and 650 million tablets to worldwide markets.

An opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Supply Chain for a Packing Expert. Reporting to the Manufacturing Unit Manager the role will encompass leading and managing a team of technologists who provide technical support to the supply chain. The individual will direct these technologists in the preparation and execution of New Product Introduction trials and planned changes to the agreed planned timescales and actively facilitate the improvement of product and process capability and batch yields across the supply chain, specifically being accountable for driving Cost of Goods (CoG) and Cost of Waste (CoW) improvements.

You will be responsible for the day to day technical issues, ensuring that they are resolved urgently to minimise reject levels and you will promote and monitor technical standards throughout the stream and ensure they are adhered to. Other duties include responsibility for technologist’s technical training, PDP process, compliance with standards and other GSK general management processes to ensure business priorities and targets are met. You will provide technical opinion as a Packing Expert at site level and to some above site forums (e.g. DME, Supply Chain Planning).

Accountability include:

  • Ensure all NCE trials are prepared & executed to the required PPD roadmap timetable avoiding any delay to a planned launch. Ensure trials are supported with appropriate on-line support and technical learnings are captured, reported & applied.
  • Make a significant year on year improvement to the cost of manufacturing by directing a team of technologists towards reducing the Cost of Goods (COG) and Cost of Waste (CoW) for existing commercial processes.
  • Successful execution of planned changes to the materials and processing of existing products.
  • Successful resolution to technical problems involving existing global supply products.
  • Leading and coordinating process investigations. Engaging support of Product Technical & Product Performance Teams where required.
  • Lead and inform opinion on the technical design of trials.
  • Management of complex technical project plans to ensure the production & packaging technologists deliver on key product stream objectives.
  • Provide technical advice (including strategy development, risk management, mitigation plans) to leadership teams of both the Function Technical Groups and the Supply Chain.
  • Deliver their aspects of technical projects on time in full.
  • Manage teams of up to 10 people.

Qualifications required:

  • Educated to a scientific / engineering degree level with experience of managing complex projects and teams within a pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging environment.
  • Respiratory / Tablet manufacturing & packaging processes, product formulation, development and process monitoring and control techniques (PAT, MVA, PUCC) both at research and development and commercial scales.
  • Manufacturing & packaging equipment operation and the types of equipment available for respiratory/Tablets dose form manufacture.
  • Product development registration, including clinical trials.
  • Process validation and scale-up.
  • Primary / Secondary Technology Transfer Process.
  • Analytical methodology associated with respiratory / Tablets dose form manufacture.
  • Internal and external quality requirements (e.g. Good Manufacturing Practice, Site procedures & GSK QMS).
  • Internal and external environmental, health and safety requirements (e.g. COSHH).
  • Operational Excellence, DfM tools and techniques.
  • HR policies and procedures.
  • Develops new ideas and solutions about specific issues.
  • Involves people in issues that affect them. Brings team members into the discussion so they can contribute their ideas.
  • Gains the buy-in of others by showing the advantages, benefits and features of own solutions and ideas.
  • Seeks to raise levels of performance by establishing an improvement process, or setting specific, measurable targets and goals linked to GSK business needs.
