Highlighted will be the first commercial versions of Airspray's latest innovations – the Symplicity lotion pump and the Dual Foamer.
In the lotion pump sector, Symplicity has a standard neck finish of SP 28/410. The product provides for a 4ml output, making it of particular interest for applications that need more coverage, including skin moisturisers, bath and shower products, shampoos and body care lotions. The all-plastic pump incorporates water-resistant capabilities.
The Dual Foamer is suited to the dispensing of dual-component products. The introduction of the product has opened new design possibilities for manufacturers in many categories, including suncare, acne cleansers, dandruff preparations, veterinary products and more.
It consists of two small foam pump systems. A single actuator activates both pumps simultaneously, keeping the ingredients separate until the moment of application. At that point, the ingredients combine to create an instant 50/50 foam formulation. Output is 0.8ml/stroke.

Advanced software scanners from S+S
S+S is launching the RAYCON range of X-ray scanners. The RAYCON system uses X-ray technology with advanced image processing software to provide contaminant detection, as well as identifying missing or broken product, position monitoring and even weight checks.
"Contaminant detection remains unaffected by foil or metallic packaging. Furthermore, product effects caused by moisture or salts present no problem."
As well as detecting foreign bodies RAYCON can identify product defects such as missing items, broken or malformed product. It can also be used to identify misshapen packs, flavour clumps or checking the weight of the whole product or single components.

Seasonal conveyors
Wright Machinery is introducing the latest version of its on-machine seasoning system for products such as snacks, cereals, cookies, crackers and biscuits, equipped with Flowright conveyors.
These modular horizontal motion and vibratory conveyors are designed to provide superior handling to reduce product degradation and flavour drop off, improved hygiene and require less support structures.
Also included in the seasoning system is the Weighwright, a weighing conveyor based on the vibratory principle that provides an alternative to systems that use conveyor belts. It provides mass flow measurement of the material to be flavoured, allowing the dose rate of powder or liquid additives to be adjusted in proportion.
The Weighwright operates to an accuracy of better than ±1%, in turn allowing the on-machine seasoning system to work to a tolerance of better than ±0.30% when adding flavours and better than ±0.10% when adding salt.

Aetna Group highlights additions from Robopac and Dimac

The Unigrabber, a new servo-driven 4-axis carbon fibre pick 'n place robot for food applications, features a variety of product pick up devices and a 'self-teach' automatic memory that allows the head to be synchronised automatically to the co-ordinates of the product.
In another first, Vepatec will demonstrate the TU-K 800 tray-erector, handling a high-sided carton board display tray, typically used in the meat and cheese industries. The system forms carton board blanks into an almost limitless variety of styles including large display trays, and cartons with and without hinged lids and runs at speeds of up to 40cartons/min.
MAF [Stand 17A39] will exhibit its new Combimatic 700/1000 tray-packer series that operates at up to 25 cycles/min. It is suitable for trays with high borders and top covers and is also available in wraparound and side loader versions.
The servo or mechanical and pneumatically driven carton-discharge and carton-folding systems can be provided with a variety of MAF infeed, handling and stacking systems and offers quick repeatable operator changeover as well as the ability to print and label on line.
Synchrosys [ Stand 6E73] will exhibit a newly designed rusk handling and loading line. Designed to take biscuits in multiple rows from the cooling band, accumulate them, and load them into piles, it operates at 640 rusks/min.
A patented mechanism helps to minimise product damage by reducing the amount of friction between the product during collation and loading into the cantilevered, electronic high-speed flow-wrapping machine. This is achieved by forming piles of rusks or biscuits while stationary before being transferred through servo-driven twin side chains into the wrapper.

Choice of form-fill-seal mode
Teepack Spezialmaschinen is showcasing the new ZENOBIA vertical form, fill and seal machine with optional air-free technology. This new concept makes it possible to choose between continuous or intermittent operation on one and the same machine, depending on the nature of the product and the particular application.
Contrary to conventional technology, with which a potential gas flushing or air-reduced sealing is only carried out in a downstream machine after the bagging of the product, ZENOBIA enables the production of an air-reduced block bottom bag in only one production step.
Moreover, output is said to be 20% higher, the products are bagged more gently, the bags are of higher quality, and the machine is quieter to run due to its continuous mode of operation.
The 'air-free' system also includes a density control. The gusseting devices of the form, fill and seal machine adjust to the individual filling level of the bags, so that fluctuations of the filling level are taken into account. The scanning of the filling level is carried out during the sealing of the top and bottom seam.
The top seam, which is produced by the heatseal tool for horizontal seals, forms the bottom seam of the subsequent bag at the same time so that no overlaying packaging material is generated.
In addition to block bags, both conventional pillow bags as well as stand up bags can be produced. ZENOBIA is suited for the packaging of frozen food, pasta, fresh produce, legumes and numerous other food- and non-food products.

Sato demonstrates RFID
Visitors to the SATO stand can witness a complete supply chain process from the supplier via the manufacturer to the retailer, demonstrating how METRO RFID seamlessly integrates into traditional barcode systems.
The flagship of the supply chain simulation is SATO's RFID-enabled 'S' series OEM print engine. The RFID module adopted by SATO operates in the UHF band [868 MHz] and conforms to EN 300220 specifications.
The SATO automatic pallet labelling solution is supplied with the UPM Rafsec FlagTag, allowing tagging of all pallets with just one type of tag. Portable air cushion void-fill system
Star on the Pactiv Europe stand will be the new AirSpeed 6000 air cushion, void-fill packaging system. This works by creating a continuous chain of protective pouches filled with air. The system eliminates the need for an external air supply, making it portable. It operates at 17m/min, enabling it to keep up with high-demand packaging situations.
Users can use the AirSpeed 6000 as a stand-alone bench-top unit, ideal for applications requiring both speed and flexibility and, because void-fill is created on demand, inventory and warehousing requirements are minimised.
The roll stock, which creates the cushions, yields up to 3.1m³ per roll, which is the equivalent of eight standard size bags of loose fill. The cushions are lightweight, reducing shipping and disposal costs.

Pick-and-place debut
Endoline Machinery will formally launch its international business intentions to the packaging industry.
The exhibition will also see the first overseas showing of the Endoline 310 Series of modular pick and place case packing machines. Costs and complexity are kept to a minimum and customers should achieve a return on investment of between 6-18 months, depending on their shift pattern and current manning levels.
Also on display will be the Endoline 221 case erector from the 200 Series. This series encompasses three main design concepts – a compact footprint, clear access and dual opposing vacuum. All-in-one inkjet coder
Sauven Marking will launch the first compact, all-in-one-unit 70mm inkjet printer for box coding. The print head, the control unit and the ink supply are all integrated in one single unit with a size no bigger than a shoebox [297x210mmx150mm].
The Codajet 7000 is designed for coding on cardboard boxes in an industrial environment. It will be the first 70mm printer to have a control unit and ink supply integrated in the print unit itself says Sauven. No external communication cables or external ink tubing are necessary, making the Codajet 7000 less vulnerable and more flexible for installation in a production environment.
A single PCB, making internal communication cables redundant and increasing the reliability controls the Codajet 7000. In addition, the ink is fed from a closed system positioned next to the print head, reducing the ink tubing and again contributing to an increased reliability.
The Codajet 7000 can be operated and programmed from the print unit itself or from a remote computer. The Codajet 7000 can be used as a stand-alone unit, integrated in a network or in a master-slave set-up.

Compact form-fill-seal
Mecaplastic will present its ultra-compact FS410 form-fill-seal machine as well as its new 'S' range of tray sealing machines, including the S1000, S2000 and S6000.
The FS410 has been designed to fit any space configuration. Features include
cutting solutions for either rigid or flexible films, IP 65 protection for wash down cleaning and, with only one low board/vacuum pump included, the machine can be on casters.
The FS410 is reversible – designed for either a left to right or right to left operation and is said to offer fast film change, fast and easy die changing and extractable knives cassette. The S1000 is a semi automatic tray sealer for pre-made trays with an option to include vacuum and gas flushing. The machine is constructed in stainless steel to IP65 to allow thorough wash down.
Sealing and cutting tools are interchangeable and can be mounted onto the new automatic S2000 in addition to the MECA 900, MECA 2002 and MECA 2003. Short bag closers
The latest development in Meypack's bag closers will be the focus of attention. A short version of the FTS-B for milling plants will be shown for the first time.
Short refers to the headspace of the closed bags, which allows more compact bags. Since space is at a premium in many mills, bag closers must not be too long. A rising demand for bag closers in the FTS series is expected in the food industry, mainly for mass produced goods like flour.

Cap-less induction sealing cuts costs

Consistent PS labelling claim
In the spotlight will be the new Weber Model 2600 series label printer-applicator, a lightweight, in-line unit designed for consistent pressure sensitive labelling. It is capable of printing 203- or 300-dpi text, bar codes and graphic images at speeds up to 12in/sec.
In addition, the company will showcase RFID label and printer applicators. For instance, the Weber 5200 features an integrated system that can print, encode, verify and apply pressure-sensitive RFID labels to cartons and pallet loads in one operation.
As labels are printed, digital information is instantly encoded onto thin UHF tags that are embedded in the smart label material. The encoded information is verified immediately by the system and the smart label is then applied to the top or side of a carton or pallet load.

Laser perforates MAP films
Making its debut will be the Xymark LC, a laser system that can perforate and score flexible packaging films on high-speed production lines for modified atmosphere packaging and 'easy tear' applications.
The micro-perforating involved in the MAP application allows suppliers of fresh produce to maximise shelf-life and storage. This is because the micro-perforations produced help to minimise respiration rates that can lead to rapid deterioration of the produce and therefore large-scale wastage.
The Xymark LC can be programmed to generate different hole patterns in packaging, thereby enabling the right conditions to be created for each type of produce. Additionally, the laser is able to score 'easy-tear' lines to provide consumer friendliness.

Custom built Excel fillers
Custom built machines on show will include a Gravfil six-head Excel liquid filler, along with a single-head Albro powder filling rig and a Dico servo capper.

Schubert showcases digital technology
A TLM F44 picker line will be working in non-stop mode on the Schubert stand. In addition, a TLM packaging line producing wallets for the pharmaceutical industry, another for chewing gum rolls and one for chocolate bars will also be on display.
Both the chewing gum and chocolate bar machines feature product-collating F44 robots. A TLM T800 digital thermoforming machine will also be highlighted.

ABB is extending its range of robots with the IRB 660, a new, dedicated palletizing robot. The 4-axis design combines a 3.15 metre reach with a 250kg payload, making it "ideal for palletizing bags, boxes, crates, bottles and more".
The IP 67 ratied IRB 660 is said to be considerably faster than its predecessor and its "optimised motor power and motion performance ensure significantly shorter cycle times than competing products".
The palletiser can service up to four in-feed conveyors, two pallet stacks, one slip-sheet stack and four palletizing out-feeding lines, up to a maximum palletizing height of 2,980 mm. A high-speed version of the 660 is capable of handling 180 kg payloads at full speed and 250 kg at reduced speeds.

Newman Labelling
On the Newman Labelling stand there will be upgraded versions of its NV2 and VAL550 pharmaceutical labelling machines.
The entry level NV2, for self-adhesive labelling of flat, square and oval containers, now has an autoreject facility for barcode and overprint faults, while the high speed VAL550 ampoule labeller has an upgraded control system – with a databus internal wiring system – and an integrated Systech OCV vision system.
Among other machines on show will be Newman's S250 labeller for paper and clear self-adhesive labels which features simple and rapid changeover with a minimum of change parts and a compact CTE350 which will be demonstrating the application of holographic labels to pre-erected cartons.

Radical redesign for Krones Wrapapac
Krones AG says it has "radically redesigned" its range of continuously operating Wrapapac wrap-around machines, resulting in smoother operation and easier reproducibility of settings. The Wrapapac W on show at interpack can also handle solid board at 60 cycles/min for creating "fridge packs".
The company will also be exhibiting the redesigned Variopac tray-packer/shrinkwrapper which is said to be more "user-friendly" and has a "significantly increased" speed range, enabling it to "easily reach" a speed of 100 cycles/min.
Finally, the newly developed 3A-R rotary-column robot, capable of lifting loads up to 700 kg, will also be exhibited.

Safe and returnable
Kaysersberg Plastics, part of DS Smith Plastics, will show two new packaging solutions and it says of particular interest to electronics manufacturers will be the new line of ESD safe, returnable packaging.
These volume efficient, made to measure boxes, are made from Akyelec, an extruded, lightweight conductive polypropylene sheet material. The material is produced in both conductive (SR<103) and static dissipative (SR 104 – 1011) grades and can be engineered to meet customers' specific conductivity requirements.
The boxes can be supplied complete with fittings, manufactured in Akyelec or from foam materials with the same electrical properties. Being fibre free, they are also suitable for use in cleanroom environments and enable users to bring secondary packaging into ESD sensitive areas.
Uni-Pak, the company's unit load container system, is now available with fixed return collars that turn the pallet base, lid and sleeve system into a self-contained unit for efficient empty transit and storage. The sleeve and internal fittings can be now be folded down and locked within the dimensions of the dismantled Uni-Pak.
The return collars are made in two heights, providing 125mm and 365mm ullage between deck and lid. The smaller collar is said to be ideal for unitising the sleeve, base-board and several layer boards, whereas the taller collar is designed to accommodate larger and more complex demountable internal fittings and dunnage.

LoeschPack's sweet offerings
LoeschPack will exhibit a selection of machinery solutions for the confectionery and dry baked goods sectors, including three new presentations.
The LTM-DUO, an automatic twin-station fold wrapping machine, will be shown in a special format for confectionery which is capable of wrapping a variety of shapes and sizes of chocolate bars, with differing materials and with easy format change. It is designed for a carton inner wrap and a hermetically sealed outer wrap of PP with an "easy-open" strip. LoeschPack says output is up to 160 bars/min.
The LRM-G/LTM-K is a flexible wrapping line for individual wrapping of chocolate bars and multipacks at speeds up to 450 products/min.
The LHW-1/WKM-1 wraps sugar-coated chewing gum pellets in sticks at speeeds up to 400 packs/min. LoeschPack says the use of one or two wrapping materials with easy-open strips makes it possible to produce a variety of types of packaging.

High speed packing system launched
Beck Packautomaten promises a glimpse of future packaging technology on its stand, with the launch of its new "Printliner Concept" system for high speed packing, at up 120 strokes/min, of direct mail, and publications.
Centrepiece of the stand will be the Beck-Serienpacker SX four-side sealing machine for straight-line edge, skin-tight packing. Beck says the machine ensures optimum film path operation and "top quality" sealing.

Rapid, flexible handling of solid and liquid foods
Designer and manufacturer of heatsealing and filling equipment, Packaging Automation, will show two automated machines designed to bring greater flexibility and speed to handling many types of solid and liquid foods.
The Vision 400 is a flexible traysealer providing MAP-F, MAP-V and high oxygen flushing for meat, poultry, vegetables, seafood and convenience foods. With a space-saving footprint, it operates at 80 packs/min, while tool and product changes can be undertaken in two minutes. Designed to reduce film usage and able to seal plain or printed film to any compatible container, the system will be shown automatically de-nesting ready meal trays on an extended infeed conveyor.
Equally flexible, Packaging Automation claims, is the Fastfill60 for convenience liquid food processing. Superseal gets hot
Induction cap sealing system specialist Enercon Industries is using interpack to launch its hottest coil for the Superseal Max. The coil can hermetically seal small foil diameters that are contained within a much larger diameter cap, common, for example, in the ketchup sector.
Running at line speeds up to 100m/min sealing a large range of closures sizes from 15-120mm, the Superseal Max is claimed to be the fastest air-cooled induction machine made.
It incorporates a 40-character LCD designed for easy use and provides an intelligent feedback control to the line operator.

Tubular pillows on demand
On Easypack's stand will be the new Easyair Cassette that generates large tubular pillows to any length and volume, with softness controlled by the packer as each bag is formed. The company says the result is exactly the right amount of void fill with no wastage. Bags are produced on demand, "eliminating storage and distribution problems associated with large numbers of small bags" and "large bags mean less material is used, resulting in lower costs and easier disposal when they have done their job".

High-speed packaging system launched
Beck Packautomaten promises a glimpse of future packaging technology on its stand, with the launch of its new "Printliner Concept" system for high speed packing, at up 120 strokes/min, of direct mail, newspapers and magazines.
Centrepiece of the stand will be the Beck-Serienpacker SX four-side sealing machine for straight-line edge, skin-tight packing. The machine's carefully engineered design ensures optimum film path operation and top quality sealing.
Also on show will be the Beck-Multiplex form/fill/seal system with an ultra-fast film changeover feature for smooth, continuous operation. The cover hood can be opened with one hand for fast, easy access to all machine components.

Superseal gets hot
Induction cap sealing system specialist Enercon Industries is using interpack to launch its hottest coil for the Superseal Max. The coil can hermetically seal small foil diameters that are contained within a much larger diameter cap, common, for example, in the ketchup sector.
Running at line speeds up to 100m/min sealing a large range of closures sizes from 15 – 120mm with their variety of coils, the Superseal Max is claimed to be the fastest air-cooled induction machine made.
It incorporates a 40-character LCD designed for easy use and provides an intelligent feedback control to the line operator.

Rapid, flexible handling of solid and liquid foods
Designer and manufacturer of heatsealing and filling equipment Packaging Automation will show two automated machines designed to bring greater flexibility and speed to handling many types of solid and liquid foods.
The Vision 400 is a flexible traysealer providing MAP-F, MAP-V and high oxygen flushing for meat, poultry, vegetables, seafood and convenience foods. With a space-saving footprint, it operates at 80 packs/min, while tool and product changes can be undertaken in two minutes. Designed to reduce film usage and able to seal plain or printed film to any compatible container, the system will be shown automatically de-nesting ready meal trays on an extended infeed conveyor.
Equally flexible, Packaging Automation claims, is the Fastfill60 for convenience liquid food processing. It has an integrated automatic de-nesting system to remove pots or trays from stacks for automatic filling and sealing using a pre-cut foil, polyester lid or reel-fed film lid. Closed loop monitoring allows an external checkweigher to feed back data to the machine's PLC, automatically adjusting fill volumes. A wide range of pack sizes can be quickly accommodated by the flexible pot handling and changeover facility.
