OSB cases cut costs

Crocodile Packaging has "dramatically reduced" the cost of exporting to the Far East for a leading automotive safety product manufacturer.

Autoliv Spring Dynamics' Milton Keynes operation makes springs for the drive motors in seat belts. Over a million a week leave the plant, many destined for the Far East.

Autoliv's previous plywood cases were expensive and, once dispatched, were never seen again. New ISPM 15 regulations controlling wooden packaging's use were an additional area of concern.

Crocodile supplied replacement cases made of oriented strand board (OSB), which, as a processed wood product, is exempt from the regulations. Manufactured to a 1,200 x 800mm size to suit Autoliv's company-wide racking, they are a third cheaper than Autoliv's previous plywood packaging and reusable.

Once unpacked at their destination, the cases are dismantled, fumigated and stacked flat, making them significantly cheaper to ship back.
