The new facility at O-I’s Perrysburg, Ohio headquarters in the US is scheduled for completion before the end of 2013, and will produce sample glass containers using new manufacturing technologies and product designs being tested by the company.
The agreement with UT, also in Ohio state, covers salary and fees for graduate research assistants to partner O-I scientists and engineers, as well as the purchase of newly available equipment specific to glass, and fees for the use of UT’s existing equipment including x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy instruments.
“Our scientists will benefit from the help of UT graduate students, who will leverage the university’s extensive laboratory capabilities,” says O-I vice president of R&D Dr. Kimberly Houchens.
