Mauser begins plastic drum production in Turkey

17 February 2012

Global industrial packaging producer Mauser Group plans to begin production of plastic packaging in Turkey in the first quarter of this year, by expanding operation capacity at its plant in Istanbul.

The Cologne, Germany-based company will begin by producing 120-litre and 220-litre open top drums at the Istanbul facility, and plans to add 60-litre drums to the selection available.

“For Mauser, this opens up new opportunities in the region,” says Mauser Turkey and Russia MD Ali Özbudak. “With this investment, we will be able to deliver a wider range of industrial packaging solutions to our customers and meet the needs of the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors.”

To date, Mauser has already been able to support customers in the region with plastic packaging solutions through its licensee network. As the license agreement for plastic packaging solutions was coming to an end, Mauser decided to extend its own operation activities.

However, the license agreement with the Turkish manufacturer Deren Ambalaj will remain in place for the supply of IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) into the local market.

Besides the new line for plastic drums in Istanbul, Mauser Turkey is also present in the country with Mauser Ambalaj Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. for steel packaging solutions, and the reconditioning subsidiary NCG Metal ve Plastik Ambalaj Yenileme Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S.

With the production of plastic packaging solutions from March 2012, Mauser Turkey complements its product portfolio to meet the Turkish market requirements.
