Mart courts food packagers

16 August 2005

A new lamination department for food packaging is set to open in August at independent flexible packaging manufacturer Roberts Mart's Leeds site.

The £350,000 BRC/IoP-approved facilities will produce high quality, food grade flexible packaging for the confectionery, speciality food, biscuit and beverage markets. Roberts Marts says the department's capabilities will enable it to enhance its product range and attract more food sector business.

The facility, constructed in response to growing demand from the sector for laminates, will be headed by business manager, laminates, Paul Bowley, headhunted specifically for the role.

A new laminator, networked to both a 10-colour Fischer & Krecke press acquired last year, and a high-speed Titan SR8 slitter, should be operational this month, while several new shopfloor jobs are expected to be created.

Bowley started his flexible packaging career with LMF (now Alcan), subsequently holding senior management roles with Parkside Flexibles, Danapak and Flexible Vision.
