MAP solution for fresh flowers

20 November 2006

Amcor Flexibles has worked in partnership with Dutch company Flora Holland to develop a modified atmosphere packaging system for flowwrapped fresh flowers called Amcor HortiFlex, known at Flora Holland as FlowPack.

The specially developed packs can be transported and displayed in store without the need for water, meaning an improved display, reduced maintenance n-store, increased distribution options and mess-free transportation for the final consumer.

The two companies are now bringing the innovation to the global fresh cut flower marketplace so that the benefits can be seen by all. Selected customers are apparently currently launching products with tailored Amcor HortiFlex packaging applications for their specific market.

Amcor HortiFlex applications and marketing manager Jane Bicknell adds: “We can basically produce these MAP packs from any films the customer requires; so far we have mainly used OPP and laminates of various plastics. We have drawn very much on our existing expertise of MAP packaging fresh produce which goes back many years.”
