Korsnäs is to replace its well-established Frövi Bright cartonboard with a new SBS (solid bleached sulphate) board, Frövi White; it plans the first deliveries within the first quarter of this year.
The company has invested SKr 100m in a new reverse-side coater at its plant in the run-up to the new board's launch, designed to run the existing cartonboard machine much faster. Ola Karlsson, Frövi White project manager, says: “Luxury brands demand white cartonboard with a smooth printing surface that can be easily designed and a reverse side that can be printed on. Frövi White is even whiter than its predecessor and has a coated reverse-side. The print surface is noticeably improved and smoother. The aim was to increase whiteness by about 40%.”
Korsnäs says the new board is also stronger, thanks to bleached long fibre pulp in the middle layer and bulk CTMP pulp.
“This is an enormous investment and we have created a niche for ourselves between fully bleached pulp and reverse side coated folding boxboard,” explains Karlsson.
