Lighter wine by M&S

Marks & Spencer says it has become the first retailer to convert its entire range of mini (25cl) still wine bottles to PET, to save 525 tonnes of packaging a year.

The ‘pioneering technology to produce MLP PET for wine bottles able to guarantee to keep wine fresh ‘for at least 12 months’ was developed with Paul Sapin and Roger Harris Wines. It comprises a sandwich of two layers of polyethylene terephthalate and an oxygen barrier material.

The bottles are 88% lighter than glass bottles, take less energy to make and reduce the carbon footprint in transport and distribution, said the British retailer.
