Leather look for Bootleg wine

29 November 2005

Decorative Sleeves has produced 360 deg "zipped leather" look sleeves that give "a sexy, innovative and modern" feel to the Bootleg Italian wine range being imported to America by US wine importer Click Wine Group.

The designer's concept for the wines was to create the impression of bottles "dressed" in leather, including a zip. The need for 360 deg complete coverage, and the high quality reproduction required to maximise the decorative effect's impact, led the company to select Decorative Sleeves for the project.

It selected 50 micron PET for a consistent shrink finish, while the gravure print process uses "specialist" delicate inks to give the high impact "leather-encased" look and a three-dimensional effect for the zip and label areas. The print specification also gives a tactile aspect, while accurate pre-distortion ensures the zip remains perfectly vertical.

The sleeves are applied by Vetro Reno in Italy before the wines are shipped to America.
