Label producer targets East European growth

15 June 2005

Skanem, one of Europe's largest label producers, has acquired Poznan-based Introl and its subsidiary, Moscow-based Introl Print, in a bid to gain a strong foothold of the self-adhesive labelling sector in Central Europe.

"The Central and Eastern European market in self-adhesive labels is growing at about 20% and this acquisition is an ideal match for our planned business development," says group president and Skanem owner Ole Rugland. "Introl is a quality labels producer and is also a bridge for Skanem into the Eastern European markets."

Introl, which employs around 200 staff, was founded in 1982 and will continue to be run by Romuald Szperlinski.

Skanem operates labelling plants in five countries – Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the UK. It employs 850 people in 10 printing plants and the total turnover in 2004 was €120M.
