Italian aluminium provider invests in the UK

Contital, one of the leading global suppliers of aluminium products, has invested an undisclosed “substantial sum” in the rapidly growing business of i2r Packaging Solutions, specialist in smooth wall foil trays for the food industry.

Established in 2007, i2r provides a variety of products for manufacturers and retailers across the UK. The new investment will allow the company to expand both its range and its production capacity in Telford.

Contital complements i2r with its production capacity of 28 presses and 200 tools. The Italian based company converts 7,000 tonnes of aluminium a year with an annual turnover of more than €40 mn worldwide.

Commercial director Pasquale Pollice comments: “i2r stormed onto the market with a fresh approach and innovative new products. They have been bold and ambitious in their plans and we have all noticed the impact they have made in the UK in a very short time. Our significant investment will ensure that i2r continues to develop and innovate in both materials used and the trays provided.”

He continues: “Our link means that i2r now has an exclusive, comprehensive range of quality wrinkle wall products to complement its current range, allowing it to compete for greater market share in the UK. In addition, Contital will now have the i2r smooth wall aluminium foil trays to offer its customers worldwide.”

Peter Reay, CEO of i2r, adds: “The investment from Contital will allow us to immediately increase our UK capacity, and offer shorter delivery lead-times and greater product availability. With the new wrinkle wall tray range we can now also compete across all product groups. Through Contital’s extensive sales network, we will be able to export our smooth wall trays worldwide.”
