Life Stage Menu and Natural Menu for Dogs are freshly prepared dogfoods with a high meat content that need sterilisation and sealing in trays to ensure a long shelf life. Bruce Palmer, Forthglade chairman, says: “The quality meals are cooked in the tray, so it was essential the packs could withstand the high temperatures. Equally they needed to be convenient to handle, easy to open and to convey a quality shelf image.”
After another supplier's trays proved unable to handle the high cooking temperatures, RPC Bebo UK worked with Forthglade and traysealer manufacturer Proseal to develop an effective tray and seal offering maximum shelf life, which was also easy to peel open.
The thermoformed PP/EVOH trays' oxygen barrier provides an ambient nine-month shelf life.
