Ishida weighs up tricky mix

16 June 2005

An Ishida CCW-NZ-106B-S/15-WP fresh food weigher (FFW) is being used to weigh and pack marinated shellfish and vegetable mix for leading Belgian fish processor Gabriel.

The mix is one of Gabriel's best-selling lines but the very different characteristics of the five ingredients, plus a low target weight of just 170g for one of the pack sizes, meant there was a danger of the products separating during an automatic handling and weighing process.

Ishida's recently launched fresh food weigher combines the proven accuracy of the multihead weighing principle with a linear design that allows manual feeding of the product onto the belt feeders of the weigher.

The FFW is positioned above a Multivac thermoforming machine and the seafood and vegetable mix is packed into trays. A special "multiple point discharge" distribution system under the weigher transfers product safely into the trays.
