IoP merger a success

27 May 2005

Less than six months after it began its serious discussions with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining the Institute of Packaging says it has "all but completed" its merger with IOM3.

IOP ceo Gordon Stewart says the recent announcement that the new divisions within IOM3 will be called "IOP: The Packaging Society" "signals the fact that, as part of the new organisation, packaging will still maintain its profile and visibility".

Stewart says: "Other familiar IOP features are also maintaining their prominence. Starpack entries are up on last year, the first post-merger edition of the Packaging Professional is about to be issued, preparation for the next edition of PackSource, the Annual Packaging Review and Directory, is well underway and, most importantly, paid up membership stands at about the same level as 12 months ago.

"All in all, a very reassuring picture, which should provide comfort to the vast majority of former IOP members who last summer were facing a very uncertain future."
