Interactive printed electronic labels light up beverage bottles

15 December 2011

Innovia Films has joined forces with PragmatIC Printing, a pioneer in imprinted logic circuits, to integrate printed electronic functionality onto biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) label substrates.

The first prototypes are interactive bottle labels that activate a sequence of flashing lights when the bottle is held. This is only one example, from numerous possibilities, of how active packaging can be used to attract, inform or interact with the consumer.

Scott White, CEO of PragmatIC Printing commented: “Our collaboration with Innovia Films has demonstrated that our imprinted electronics can be integrated successfully onto label and packaging films. We now aim to progress these concepts together towards volume production and commercial deployment.”
