Inkjet for stock loss control

Marking and labelling systems company Checkpoint Systems International has enlisted Domino technology to help retail users control stock loss.

Checkpoint purchased three Domino K200 piezo inkjet printers for its integrated track and trace systems which are used in logistics chains from production to end user.

The K200 is said to provide ‘fast and accurate’ 300dpi print at 90m/min thanks to drop on demand (DOD) technology, and is ‘ideal’ for users with variable data demands, says Checkpoint.

The printers have been installed across the web of Checkpoint’s Gallus label press and electronically stitched to achieve seamless image composition using UV-curable inks. In the current set-up, a maximum of six labels webs are imprinted simultaneously, which means that over the full web width a line speed of up to 80m/min is achieved, equivalent to 420 labels/sec.

Checkpoint uses an Editor GT AV-Station to control data, configurations and print layouts from the office.

"We can produce small orders more effectively thanks to the K200 inkjet printers, as no plate costs arise and setup times are reduced to a minimum," explains Hans-Peter Horn, Department Manager of Labels Production at Checkpoint.

"The Domino K-Series allows sequential numbering of labels - something that simply isn't possible with any conventional printing method involving plates," he adds.
