Ideal closure to create barriers

26 June 2002

Crown Cork and Seal has introduced a closure that combines the characteristics of metal and plastics to offer increased barrier performance, accommodate easier opening and support multiple filling processes.

The Ideal Closure is a hybrid of a metal disc, containing the barrier properties, and a plastics rim which supports tamper-evidence and easy opening. Its plastics band enables use on both plastics and glass containers.

A patented Deep Channel Insert is incorporated. This is said to reduce oxygen ingress by 50%. Shelf-life is further extended with Crown's Scavenging Plastisol.

Opening is said to require 25% less removal torque than standard closures, due to decreased friction between the liner and the finish. A larger surface area also helps consumers to better grip the closure.

The Ideal will withstand hot-filling, pasteurisation and retort as well as offer fast temperature reduction.
