High barrier drug film

5 May 2004

A two-layer PVC laminated film for pharmaceuticals and neutraceuticals that uses 102 micron Aclar to provide what is claimed to be the highest moisture barrier available in a thermoformable film has been introduced by Klockner Pentaplast.

Said to be ideal for standard blister packaging, deep-draw packs and products ultra-sensitive to moisture, Pentapharm Aclar 400/02 reportedly has over 25% better moisture barrier properties after thermoforming than "any other clear, thermoformable film".

This, coupled with good optical clarity, allows for clear packages and product visibility, making the film an attractive alternative to cold-form foil.

The films are non-yellowing and offer "excellent machineability" on standard form, fill, seal lines and tooling.
