Around the world in compact boxes

  • The economic label applicator HERMA basic has quickly become an international success.
  • A new packaging concept now ensures safe, efficient, and eco-friendly shipping - even at high quantities

Economic, reliable, and safe: these attributes apply to the new label applicator HERMA basic as well as its packaging. "Due to rapidly increasing international demand, we have developed a packaging solution that ensures efficiency even with quantities reaching four digits. It helps streamline our production, shipping, and handling by our customers", explains Peter Rombach, head of materials management at HERMA Labelling Machines Division. Introduced at the 2014 Interpack exhibition, HERMA basic established itself as an especially economic label applicator for standard applications worldwide within a short time. So far, it has been delivered to countries including Germany, South Korea, Mexico, Canada, Russia, Portugal, Spain, France, the USA, and Turkey.

Safe, compact, and 100% recyclable
Previously, large boxes were moulded with two-component foam in order to protect the labellers against impact. HERMA's new packaging concept now uses standardised cardboard boxes with pre-punched, custom-fitted cardboard inserts. These boxes are easier to pack and can be shipped by parcel services at reduced rates since they do not require freight forwarding services. Moreover, the boxes can be easily reused or disposed of as waste paper, since they require no materials other than cardboard. Nevertheless, the multi-layered boxes are very robust, emphasizes Rombach. "You could stand on top of the boxes without breaking anything." After these positive first experiences with the new packaging concept, HERMA will now also switch the packaging for the HERMA 400 label applicator and for the unwinders to cardboard boxes. "The right packaging solution has become an integral component of our service range. It helps us solve logistical challenges for our customers even more efficiently. This is why we have developed this concept", concludes Martin Kühl, head of the Labelling Machines Division.

Easy retrofitting
The HERMA basic applies labels at a maximum speed of 25 m/min and processes label sizes between 12 x 12 and 160 x 400 mm. Thanks to identical connection points, users can easily switch to the higher-performance model HERMA 400, if required.
