Vision systems from Bradman Lake company VisDA Technology are helping UK cake maker Memory Lane ensure cartons are filled with the right product time after time.
High volume production on lines running many different brands with regular size changes demands constant vigilance. However, Memory Lane found many vision systems “expensive, difficult to set up, and affected by environmental conditions”.
“We needed a system that could be cost-effectively retrofitted to existing machines, was easy to set up, and indicated potential problems clearly,” says operations director Paul Mitchell. VisDA technology met the challenge.”
VisDa’s VisBarC system uses the barcode to ensure cartons used are the right ones. Set-up is easy, the unit is switched to the “Teach” mode and the correct barcode is swiped in front of the barcode scanner. This programs the system to look for this code when a product detect sensor is made. If a different barcode or “bad read” is detected, the machine stops and an alarm sounds. If no code is read, after three "no reads”, the machine stops and the alarm is given.
