"Greener" mushroom punnets in UK trials

16 October 2007

The rotary thermoformed punnets, attracting strong retailer interest and currently being trialled, are said to reduce petrochemical content by up to 50%.

Sharpak says that while currently the goal may be “some way off”, its eventual “vision” is for its packaging to have a zero carbon footprint, contribute nothing to landfill and to be 100% recyclable. Continuing the environmental theme, the new punnets feature a shallower de-nest, enabling more punnets to be packed into outer boxes for fuller lorry loads.
