The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has announced that the Government has accepted its recommendations for the introduction of new legislation for child resistance on non-reclosable packaging of paracetamol, aspirin and iron.

The legislation comes into force on the 1 October 2003. Companies with products already on the market have a two year transitional period to comply.

Now that the MHRA has published the details of the legal requirements for child resistance, pharmaceutical companies will need to move fairly quickly to reach compliance.
