Glass has class say consumers

18 March 2004

A survey of over 1000 adults by Glasspac - the British Glass Manufacturers' Confederation's packaging promotions arm - revealed that an "overwhelming majority" of consumers questioned "prefer food and drink to be packaged in glass jars and bottles".

Glass bottles were cited as "more attractive" than plastic ones by 81%, 76% preferred seeing glass bottles on the table, 74% felt glass was "more natural" than other packaging materials, and a further 69% believed glass packaging "suggests quality".

Glasspac[www.glasspac.com], an ongoing campaign backed by leading glass packaging producers, undertakes regular res-earch into consumer perceptions of glass packaging and alternative materials like cartonboard and plastic. "Thus we can honestly say our surveys reflect consumer thinking," says British Glass director of strategy and marketing Andy Hartley.
