14 March 2007

Former director-general of the UK's CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and champion of British industry Sir Digby Jones will be the principal speaker at the Annual Luncheon of PAFA, (the new trade association which has brought together the former PIFA (Packaging and Industrial Films Association) and FPA (Flexible Packaging Association). (Packaging Today - February 2007)

The luncheon will be held at London's Savoy on May 31, and is expected to attract over 400 guests from Government, the packaging industry and its suppliers and customers from the UK and across Europe.

Announcing the event David Tyson, PAFA ceo, said: “This will be the first luncheon since PIFA merged with FPA. We have created a powerful new trade association representing a £2bn UK industry which develops, manufactures and converts plastic films, lightweight flexible packaging and rigid sheet for a wide variety of applications. I am delighted the occasion will be marked by the presence of Sir Digby Jones, who is a champion of the UK industry across the globe and will give us, in his inimitable style, an insight into UK industry's role in a global trading environment.”

PAFA says it will also be announcing the development of a new strategy aimed at delivering a range of improved services for its members and a new approach to communications “to further reinforce the strong environmental and economic credentials of packaging films”.

The lunch will be preceded by short presentations on the association's activities over the past year, which have included securing a critical Climate Change Agreement with UK Government in line with the sector's “strong environmental commitment” to reducing CO2.
