Flow wrapper aims to oust pre-made bags

21 October 2003

Making its UK debut at the show was the Pacific Flow Vac wrapping system which has been jointly developed by Ulma and Sealed Air – which supplies the Cryovac film – and is designed to replace the use of pre-made vacuum bags in the meat, cheese and processed meats industry.

The vacuum bag is formed around the product and hermetically sealed along its length and at the end with any excess material being trimmed off. The machine senses the beginning of each item and indexes the incoming product automatically. It caters for differing lengths of product, without any changeover, and reacts to any speed variation on the line.

Ulma says the Flow Vac has a number of advantages over pre-made bags, including increased productivity, less material usage and inventory, reduced labour requirements and less seal contamination.
