First truly "green" label introduced

18 April 2005

Self-adhesive labelling specialist Berkshire Labels is to launch at this month's Packaging Innovations exhibition at Birmingham's NEC (April 13-14) a label it believes is Europe's first to incorporate both a biodegradable adhesive and face paper.

Business development manager Steve Turner says the Bio-Tak product, to be shown on stand 425, has taken two years to develop in partnership with a UK adhesive manufacturer. "We are already talking to three leading UK supermarkets, who were strongly instrumental in driving the label's development, about using it," he explains. "We foresee it being used on anything from biodegradable polymer sandwich packs to organic fruit and vegetable packaging."

Claimed to be compostable in both home and industrial applications, Bio-Tak will shortly be accredited to the EN13432 standard.
