Herma has developed a new system that allows a labeller’s format-dependent assemblies to be exchanged entirely without tools and “super-fast”, leading to time savings of “up to 90”.
Where batch changes involve a change in format of the product being labelled as well, an operator has hitherto required up to 15 minutes to replace and reset the dispensing and transfer systems, according to the self-adhesive technology specialist.
This is said to specifically affect the rigid beak, the pneumatic pivot beak and the relevant application roller – components that are responsible for precise and reliable label application.
Based on special plug-in connectors, the new system can achieve setup times of approximately one minute.
“This boon becomes even more significant in the case of products to which three different labels are attached, for example,” explains Martin Kühl, head of Herma’s Labelling Machines division.
“For, in that case, three labellers have to be retooled as well.”
A further advantage of the new system for the operator is that the Herma format changing system takes over the relevant setting parameters, rendering superfluous the “often tedious” task of fine-tuning the dispensing and transfer systems.
The new Herma format change kit – which will be on show at Interpack 2014 in Düsseldorf (Hall 12, Stand B24) – can be easily retrofitted to existing Herma labeller installations, and is available as an option on new Herma 400 labellers.
