Empac funds can competition

25 May 2010

Metal packaging association European Metal Packaging (Empac) is calling engineering and metallurgy students in Europe to create sustainable innovations for the metal can, for the chance to win €10,000.

Empac is marking the 200th anniversary of the invention and patenting of the metal can with The Next 200 Years competition, which looks at the future potential of can packaging.

“We would like to focus on cost effectiveness and efficiency throughout the supply chain,” said Gordon Shade, CEO Empac. “Students may for example invent a special closing mechanism, or a fresh style for the can. It could be a new use for food, paint or aerosols. We’re particularly interested in any innovations geared towards improving our industry’s sustainability profile.”

The entry deadline is 5 November 2010. Application forms can be obtained by email: empac@citysavvy.com, or downloaded via the Facebook Fan Page.
