Electronic waste data system proves its worth

16 August 2006

The IT-based system established earlier this summer (Packaging Today - June/July 2006) that enables organisations obligated under the UK Packaging Waste Regulations to send waste recovery and recycling data electronically to the Environment Agencies is being widely adopted.

The Packaging Federation, which provided administrative support to get the system established, and software developer Solution 7, says the results of the Quarter 2 reprocessor returns for this year clearly show it is already proving the “preferred and easiest route” for supplying the necessary compliance data.

Lorraine Lockhart, director, Solution 7, says: “All the feedback to date has demonstrated that the system is user-friendly, but like all new IT systems there are areas which require explanation and help. We are providing a first-class help system and would encourage all those yet to try the system but uncertain of any element to contact the National Packaging Waste Database helpline.” (on 08708 505801 or E: support@npwd.org.uk.)

Following analysis and assessment of this phase, the project team will now develop a proactive campaign to reach the 100% target for Quarter 3 reprocessor returns. Roadshows are also planned with the Environment Agencies to enable potential users to engage in workshops on developing and using the system. More information: www.npwd.org.uk
