Electric opening of packages

23 January 2008

Stora Enso is to introduce a new material aimed at making blister and clamshell packaging theft-proof – but still easy to open.

CDM Sinuate is the first commercial product from Stora Enso based on electrical de-lamination of polymers. The thin laminate provides strong sealing, making it difficult for a shoplifter to open, but is deactivated with electric unlocking at the checkout.

It is aimed at blister or clamshell packages, typically used for packaging small, but valuable products such as mobile phones and computer supplies. The laminate is heat-sealed using normal sealing methods.

“The requirements for theft-protection and authenticity-control often collide with the consumer's needs for packages that are easy to open and safe to handle,” says a Stora Enso spokesman.
