Domino line for late stage customisation

21 June 2006

May’s ACHEMA trade fair saw Domino Printing Sciences unveil a full colour variable data print system it claims will allow pharmaceutical manufacturers and packaging suppliers to offer customised printing onto product packaging.

The full colour hi-res drop-on-demand digital print technology will allow packaging to be customised near the packaging line, facilitating shorter product runs, and thus “relieving inventory issues”. This will allow for late stage customisation.

The technology allows overprinting of pre-printed cartons, labels and blisters with high quality, variable print, allowing both “white line” applications and unique product serialisation using Data Matrix codes.

The same process can also be used to apply variable embossed data, local product names, licence numbers or other symbology.
