Dome packs now compostable

1 September 2006

Rovipak Packaging Solutions (RPS) says a new “greener” compostable version of its standard chicken dome pack can both “transform” the presentation of whole, raw and roasted chickens and help the industry save money.

In place of a shallow filmwrapped tray the clear, rigid shell closely follows the contours of the bird and weld-sealed film underneath extends product life and stops juices seeping out. The film can be printed, and a flat surface area on the dome allows automatic label application. When composted the dome and film will reportedly break down completely in “between 50 and 100 days”.

“Business drivers like the Packaging Waste Levy coupled with rising concern for the environment make the dome pack the smart choice,” says RPS co-founder Trevor Potter.
