Dip cap for microwaveable meat snack

An award winning meat snack with a dip owes its success to ‘highly sophisticated’ microwaveable plastics packaging by Gizeh, of Germany.

Gizeh’s Dip Cap is part of a technical packaging concept that has ensured the shelf life and freshness of two different foods and their simple preparation.

The system developed for German butcher Tillman’s involves a deep-drawn EVOH cup with an injection-moulded cover. The foil-sealed EVOH cup provides an oxygen barrier adapted to the spicy recipe. A slip-lid cover, also injection moulded, contains the dip.

The cup is decorated with off-mould labels, while in-mould labelling is used for the cover. A folding fork is positioned between them.

To prepare the snack, the cover is removed and the meat portion in the cup is heated in the microwave for 30secs, shaken and heated for a further 30secs. The meat can be dipped into the sauce in the cover with the fork.

The Dip Cap was launched at the Anuga trade exhibition in October 2009 and received an innovation award. At the time Gizeh supplied more than 10,000 sample packaging units using model tools from its own tool maker. The feedback from Anuga helped produce the final product and packaging.
