Denmark's Panther Plast first in sector with ISO 22000

2 March 2006

Its Vordingborg factory, which produces around 90% of its packaging for European food producers and the rest for the medical sector, received its certificate from Danish auditing company BVQI Denmark in January. Panther Plast, which employs around 105, already holds the ISO 9001 quality management standard.

ISO 22000:2005 was developed by ISO food industry experts in tandem with representatives from specialist international organisations like the United Nations and the World Health Organisation, to make it easier for organisations worldwide to implement the Codex HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system for food hygiene in a harmonised manner. It is aimed at all key food chain players. ISO says it has become necessary due to the "significant increase in illnesses caused by infected food in both developed and developing countries".
