The ability to label complex curved pack surfaces to produce head-turning consumer packaging is now possible, thanks to a joint effort by Avery Dennison and Harland Machine Systems.
The process involves Avery Dennison’s Curve Appeal, a patent-pending system that uses Fasson Curvy film labels, and high-speed, self-adhesive linear labelling equipment manufactured under license to Harland Machine Systems.
“Being chosen by Avery Dennison as the preferred partner in developing this process has allowed Harland to demonstrate our cutting edge engineering capabilities,” said David Latham, Harland’s Sales Director.
The new Fasson Curvy film label combines a wraparound look ‘with the shelf appeal of pressure-sensitive graphics’. Avery further states that it creates up to 30% more space for primary labelling than current flat surfaces.
In addition, by reducing the need for two-ply label constructions, it enables larger back panels to carry more product or multi- language information.
To help packaging companies and converters see the impact of Fasson Curvy labels, Avery Dennison is prepared to work with them to prototype labels for existing containers and redesign packages to use more complex curves to exploit what it calls a ‘revolutionary advance’ in labelling.
