‘The world’s first collapsible pocket bottle’ has been launched in the UK and the refillable half-litre bottle is reported to be a ‘sell-out success’.
The re-usable Aquatina pocket bottle collapses to 30% of its size and is said to provide ‘an environmentally-friendly and economical’ alternative to disposables: a pocket-sized, collapsible bottle that can be filled with water from a tap or fountain when needed.
The Aquatina bottle made of food-safe plastics has a patent pending design created by Wares Design and is being manufactured by William Becketts Plastics, both of Sheffield, UK.
“The Aquatina is free of BPA chemicals that have been implicated with a range of health problems,” says William Parsons, Wares Design MD and Aquatina designer.
Howies was London’s first retailer of the bottle, and the first shop to appear on Aquatina’s Find-a-Fountain map, which shows Londoners where they can fill up their bottles for free.
The first batch of Aquatina bottles costing under £5 each went on sale in Sheffield in June.
According to the developer, the average person in Europe buys 85 bottles of mineral water a year, at a cost of over £100.
