Co-op cleans up with Powder Pods

24 July 2003

The Co-op has beaten its competitors to become the first to market with own-label dissolvable washing powder sachets.

Co-op Ultra Powder Pods, available in bio and non-bio, have been manufactured and developed by Manchester-based Robert McBride. The Powder Pods dissolve in the drum of a washing machine. The sealed pods are made of 100% soluble and biodegradable film. Each 20 pack, priced £2.49, is enough for 10 washes.

Mark Owen, head of category buying at the Co-operative Group, said: "We are sure the powder pods will be a success as they complement the unit dose range of products, which is currently driving the market, and the price is very competitive."
