Chocolate box gets a makeover

Excellent sensory properties and high quality print are said to be the key factors in Fazer Confectionery’s choice of M-real’s Carta Solida for its flagship product, the Karl Fazer confectionery box.

“As the chocolates are packed without wrappings in the cartons it is of utmost importance that there will be no odour or taint transferring from the packaging material to the chocolate,” says Päivi Svens, Karl Fazer brand manager at Fazer Confectionery.

M-real’s coated primary fibre paperboard is claimed to meet these criteria. The middle layer of Carta Solida consists of bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (BCTMP), which is said to ensure excellent sensory properties due to its high purity. The surface of this grade is suited to special features such as foil blocking.

The majority of Karl Fazer confectionery boxes are printed and converted by Pyroll, one of the leading paper and paperboard converters in the Nordic countries. “From a converter’s point of view we are very pleased with the consistent quality of M-real’s boards. Advantages gained from the even printing surface and consistent thickness can be seen in improved productivity in our converting lines,” says Petri Lahtinen, key account manager at Pyroll Tampere, Finland.

“A confectionery package made of high quality raw materials runs smoothly in the packing line. For us it means fewer interruptions as well as reduced product and carton losses,” notes Päivi Svens.
