Chinese improve quality

7 March 2005

Perfect Pharmaceuticals, a Chinese cosmetics and toiletry manufacturer, has installed a Marden Edwards LX high speed overwrapper at its Guangdong Province plant as it gears up to extend the number of its sales outlets in the country to 2000.

With Chinese consumers ever more discerning, the company recently concluded it should improve its packaging, with a move from shrinkwrapping cartons for many items to end-fold overwrap.

The LXH 25 can wrap up to 80 packs/min, producing a smooth, wrinkle-free wrap with a near hermetic seal. It will initially be handling three carton sizes used to hold several different products.

Marden Edwards sales director Chris Granger says: "There is real growth in China, with both local and multinational companies making huge investments in manufacturing and packaging equipment. We are getting many enquiries, both from companies serving the local markets and those exporting to territories outside China."
