Formed nine years ago, the CSPG's objective is "to promote the specification and success of child-resistant packaging systems for all products whose ingestion or other contact could prove seriously distressing to a child". It was initially formed as a pressure group and, secretary Stephen Wilkins explains, has played a large part in the drafting and publication of BS8404, the UK's first protocol testing standard with which blister packs could comply, which came into force last October.
"Now the Group includes 13 corporate members, having increased both in breadth and scope," Wilkins explains. "It is for this reason that we have joined the Packaging Federation, which has excellent contacts in Government and with regulators, and specialist lobbying expertise which will give us an even more powerful voice to highlight to those with influence the issues that matter most to us."
Wilkins says he believes that the CSPG, on its part, can contribute valuable expertise and intellectual resources to the Federation and its membership.
