Cartonboard makes raid on jewels

12 December 2003

CDRs and DVDs on sale at major stores are traditionally packed in plastic jewel boxes but Stora Enso says the Discbox Slider (DBS) made of cartonboard is becoming an important challenger. Memorex, the world's largest seller of recordable CDRs, recently introduced DBS cases onto the Canadian market.

The DBS is said to provide major retailers with a cost-efficient, strong, space-saving case.

The cases hold two recordable DVDs and are manufactured from Performa White DBS cartonboard. Stora Enso says a 10-pack CDR/DVD case takes up less shelf space and weighs only one third of a similar-size jewel box. Because of the design, consumers will also be able to write directly on the case cover or on the inner sleeve.
