Butcombe on the gold trail

21 October 2003

No stranger to beer quaffers in the South West, micro-brewery Butcombe is hoping to tap into a more nationally based drink for the home market through the launch of its new bottled bitter, Butcombe Gold.

Brand marketing and packaging design have been handled by Novas International of Bristol, for whom director Kevin Vyse says: "Our objective for the brand is to be local but on a national level. We wanted to ensure that the spirit of the village brewery was retained in the design execution and so used an image of a well known local site, balloons and Blagdon Lake."

According to Butcombe managing director Guy Newell the first run of 1650 cases has already found its way into SW retail outlets such as Waitrose and Tesco, and the northern-based Booths supermarket chain. There are plans to introduce a bottled lager beer next year.

Butcombe Gold labels are printed by SA Labels of Oakworth.
