Budelpack's Portuguese plant "makes huge strides ahead"

Budelpack, one of Europe's leading contract manufacturers for FMCG brand owners, says it is “taking huge strides forward” with its Alverca Home and personal care site in Portugal, which it acquired form Colgate-Palmolive last April.

The factory, which specialises in the manufacture of fabric softeners, surface cleaners, dishwasher, window cleaner, toilet and personal care products, has recently received ISO 9001:2000 certification, installed a variety of new equipment and appointed a new site director. Budelpack says the plant can now substantially increase its throughput and is in a position to “acquire volumes' from other brand owners. New site director José Luis Galvão now heads up what the company considers “a genesis for the Iberian home and personal care market”.

The plant handles more than 200 SKUs, filled on 12 packaging lines, into a wide range of bottles and with a variety of caps, 80% of which are produced at the factory itself.

New equipment purchased includes fillers, labellers, a case packer and a palletiser, which have increased filling line output while supporting automation. The site has also bought three additional blowmoulding machines to enable manufacture of bottles previously produced elsewhere, improving both productivity and flexibility.
