Following major investment in its new factory at Gliwice, Poland, Pregis Protective Packaging Europe has introduced coextruded bubblewrap technology with air retention barrier.
In addition manufacturing technical foam, mailers, and products converted from foam and bubble film, the new facility has three cast extruders for the production of Astro Suprabubble bubble air cushioning sheet. Launched in September, the new coextruded bubblewrap now accounts for 40 per cent of Pregis’s sales in Poland.
“We have experienced increasing demand for our product ranges in Eastern Europe in recent years, and the establishment of the new Polish factory and our investment in coextruded technology demonstrate our intention to provide the best products and widest choice to our customer base,” comments sales director Adam Skorzynski. “Astro Suprabubble has already taken a 25 per cent share of the entire Polish bubblewrap market, emphasising its suitability for a wide range of protective packaging applications.”
Astro Suprabubble is manufactured with five layers, of which the centre layer is said to provide a cost efficient and very effective air barrier without adding bulk or weight. It is claimed to be “100 times more resistant to the passage of air, giving it far greater air retention and longer cushioning power than traditional non-barrier bubblewrap”.
On the environmental front, Pregis says the coextrusion requires over 20 per cent less material in manufacture than conventional mono bubblewraps, and integrates 10 per cent post-industrial recycled resin.
