Bread of heaven

Warburtons is using one of Markem’s new SmartLase 100i low power CO2 laser coders to rapidly apply variable date codes to boxes of its new “All in One Riddlers” pre-filled bread rolls.

The UK baker, already using over 100 Markem SmartDate thermal transfer coders on flowwrapping, tie wrapping and labelling applications, has adopted the SmartLase for printing “best before” and “display until” dates and traceability codes. Markem says its patented technology enables lasering of more characters per box at far higher speeds and print quality “than is possible with any other laser coder “.

Engineering manager at Warburtons’ Blackpool bakery Chris Beer says: “ Previously we would have used a continuous inkjet printer, but the laser coder has probed more reliable and cost-efficient in lifetime cost terms.”
