In a major step to increase the recycled content of PET bottles, AWS Eco Plastics has signed a contract with Artenius Pet Packing Europe (APPE) a subsidiary of PET packaging company La Seda De Barcelona. AWS is to provide APPE with a minimum of 13,000 tonnes/year of recycled plastics pellet for the production of bottles for carbonated beverages.
It is the first major off-take contract to support the £14 mn capital investment programme at the AWS bottle processing plant in Lincolnshire. On completion at the end of this year the plant will be the largest of it kind in the world, it is claimed, with a processing capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year.
