"Both sides" print for tray lidstock

17 August 2005

US flexible packaging company Flexicon has launched a peelable lidstock for thermoformed PET trays, now available in the UK, which it believes is unusual in that both sides of the lamination can be printed.

Offering good barrier properties, Flexi 6818 combines heat-seal coated polyester with metallised, white oriented polypropylene.

Flexicon says it has successfully printed 10-colour jobs on the lidstock using its new PCMC Infiniti II impression drum press. The front side can be used for high end consumer graphics, with the reverse featuring print held in register with the front-side artwork.

The outer lid can typically be printed with graphics, with the reverse incorporating secondary copy like safety instructions. The company says: "The ability to produce lamination with 100% opacity further ensures that even in intense lighting, the view will not be contaminated. The copy on the reverse will not show through the front facing and vice versa."
